FROM RESEARCH TO CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

January, 26th & 27th, 2024
Lisbon, Portugal

Welcome to the first edition of AUB Taskforce meeting:

ORGANOID MEDICINE

Models for understanding early events in benign gynecological pathologies: fibroids, endometriosis and adenomyosis.

What to expect:

3D organoid model can provide a more biomimetic cell culture environment compared to 2D substrates, with the advantage of being more closely mimicking in vivo tissue architecture while being more controlled, efficient and time/cost effective replicants compared to animal models.
In benign gynecological diseases such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis and adenomyosis, these novel organoid systems can preserve key aspects of tissue scaffolding, allowing cells to undergo appropriate differentiation and proliferate in response to hormonal treatments, which is an important feature lost when cells are grown in traditional 2D monolayer culture.

Therefore, this novel biologically and physiologically relevant organoid system can serve to address several questions, both biological and pathobiological, such as the cognate and non-cognate interactions between uterine fibroid and endometrium to explore fibroid negative impact on fertility with subsequent development of novel fertility-sparing treatments.

Also, 3D organoids have significant utility to be deployed in prompt screening applications, such as drug screening, environmental toxins exposures, and thus future development of measures to mitigate such exposures.

Let’s meet in Lisbon and exchange together, we’re counting on your presence!
